*This post is going to be a bit different. While creating my blog last year and planning my content for this year, I decided to reflect on reasons why I love and follow the blogs that I do. And the common thread between them all was that they were about more than just fashion. They would go deeper, and share meaningful content that I enjoyed reading. Outfit posts are great but I’ve always known I wanted to go deeper than that (hence why I launched this as a LIFESTYLE blog rather than just a style blog). In 2018, I want to stay true to that mission and bring you more meaningful posts besides just my favorite coat right now. So let me know what you guys think about this new direction over on instagram or facebook!
So today’s post will be all about how to get what you want in 2018 and beyond. We all set goals and resolutions every year but I’d bet less than half of us actually follow through with those goals. So today, while we are still at the beginning of what could be the greatest year of our lives, I want to get into my top tips to get what you want in all aspects of your life and make the most of the cards you’re dealt. So without further ado, let’s do this.

How to Get What You Want Tip 1: Be. Resourceful. B-E RESOURCEFUL
This is probably one of my top tips for getting what you want, and is a lesson that I learned from my mama early on in life. You see, the universe does what it can for you but it can’t do it all. And sometimes (actually probably MOST of the time) the path to your goals isn’t going to be a straight line. You need to let go of the idea that things should happen one specific way, and find alternate ways to get to your end goal. If one attempt doesn’t work out, find another. You should always have a plan A, B, and C for good measure.
Get creative and use your resources. Applying for a new job? Don’t just send your resume off into the black hole that is the internet application process and hope that it sticks. See if you have any possible connections to somebody in that office and reach out to them to let them know that you applied and would love if they could point you in the right direction to the hiring manager! Short on money because you aren’t making enough at work? Figure out something that you are good at outside of work and make it a side hustle. In 2018, we have so many options for side hustles including but not limited to: blogging, selling on Etsy, selling on eBay, becoming a Task Rabbit, or an Uber driver. The list is endless. Being resourceful could be the difference between success and failure, so get creative! Which brings me to my next point…
How to Get What You Want Tip 2: Be Relentless
You know that saying about “dreams don’t work unless you do”? It’s SO TRUE. You can’t just sit around and fail once and give up. Be relentless in the pursuit of your dreams or goals. Be so relentless that one, two or three setbacks won’t stop you. It’s okay to get discouraged, but you can’t stay discouraged. I strongly believe that you have to make things happen for yourself in this world, and if you aren’t willing to work hard for the things that you want, then maybe you don’t actually want them. Anyone who knows me, knows that I am extremely ambitious and driven. My passion is what drives me. Right now I may be experiencing a few setbacks due to unforeseen changes in my life, but that is not going to stop me from trying to make this year my best yet. I just believe that there is something greater for me out there, and I’m determined to find it. Settling for mediocrity has never been an option for me, and it shouldn’t be for you either.
I posted a quote a couple of weeks ago in one of my Weekly Rewinds and it said: “It’s okay if you fall down and lose your spark; just make sure that when you get back up, you rise as the whole damn fire.” I’m a sucker for good quotes and this one resonated with me more than anything I’ve read in a while. As humans, we are going to mess up and fail and we’re going to doubt ourselves sometimes. I know that I struggle with self-doubt A LOT. However you cannot let yourself live in that failure or that doubt. Pick yourself back up, shake it off, and get your life back together. Get back up more fierce than you were before you fell. Believe in yourself, and prove all the doubters wrong. Rise as the whole damn fire.
How to Get What You Want Tip 3: Be Kind
This tip may be a bit more abstract than the others but stay with me. I’m a big believer in karma, and manifesting your dreams, and good vibes. I believe that you get back what you put out into the world. Being kind to people and doing good will never hurt you. At the very least, it’ll make someone else feel good, and possibly create a chain reaction where they’re kind to someone else in turn. At the most, it may bring some good energy and good karma your way, and you may find yourself with a bit of luck or new opportunity just from that.
But in a less abstract way, my mom always reminded me that you attract more bees with honey, than you do with vinegar. That cannot be more true. It basically means that people will be more drawn to you if you’re kind and charming than if you come off as rude, or belittling. In my personal experience, I’ve gotten a bunch of opportunities and even second chances, just from charming people and being nice to them. True story: I almost lost my job at one point a couple of years ago, but was able to turn things around and get a second chance simply because, and I quote, I’m “so pleasant to be around.” That is not to boast, at all. But it’s just to say that in my experience, being a positive person truly can bring you good fortune and opportunities. Nobody likes a Negative Nancy. Be nice. Be kind. Be thoughtful. And you may just find that people are much more willing to help you out.
So in review, my top tips to get what you want this year are to be resourceful, be relentless, and be a good human. With these three tips in your arsenal, I can almost guarantee you’ll see more success this year. Let me know what you guys think about this post and if you’d like more posts like this.
