In light of everything going on, I figured it could be cool to start a new series that chronicles this crazy season of our lives. This series, the Quarantine Chronicles, will share inspiration each week around one theme (movies or tv shows to watch, recipes to try, books to read, comfy clothes to lounge in, etc). To kick things off, today we’re talking all about movies that Craig and I have been watching over the past few weeks, since I’m sure a lot of us are starting to burn through our initial “to watch” lists by now. I’ve really loved using this down time to watch more movies since we usually just watch tv shows in our free time. My plan with this post is to circle back every now and then to update this list with new movies we’ve watched, so don’t forget to check back for updates if you find yourself needing a suggestion for movie night!
Movies To Watch While Social Distancing
These are the movies that I’ve been watching so far or plan to watch soon. Some are new; some are old. But you’ll find that the majority of them are feel-good movies that aren’t too serious, and will help get your mind off of…well you know, everything going on. These movies are in no particular order and most can be found on at least one streaming service.
The Parent Trap—The Lindsay Lohan version obviously. This movie will forever be a favorite of mine.
The Intern—Nancy Meyers can kind of do no wrong in my eyes and I’ve watched this movie more times than I’d care to admit because honestly, Anne Hathaway’s character is #goals.
Love Actually—Who doesn’t need a little Christmas cheer right about now? I watch this movie all year long and have no shame.
Always Be My Maybe—A Netflix original rom-com that you probably watched when it was all anyone was talking about last year
Someone Great—See above. Also it’s based in NYC so obviously it had to make my list.
It’s Complicated—Another Nancy Meyers movie starring Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin, and Steve Martin. It’s (strangely) a really good time.
Bad Moms & Bad Moms Christmas—We just watched both of these during the first weekend of quarantine and when I say they’re both laugh-out-loud-funny, I mean it.
A Simple Favor—Also just watched this one last weekend. The mystery is what drew me in. It wasn’t the best movie ever but it was entertaining.
What Women Want—Such a classic
What Men Want—The 2019 remake of the aforementioned What Women Want. It stars Taraji P. Henson so I decided to watch but overall it fell a bit flat to me honestly.
Hobbs & Shaw—Craig’s pick last weekend. The latest installment in the Fast & Furious saga and it was just about as ridiculous as you’d expect.
Knives Out—This was so fun to watch! We watched it a week or two ago and really were kept guessing (almost) until the very end.
Harry Potter—I solemnly swear that I will never put together a movie or book recommendation list without Harry Potter. Sorry not sorry.
Bridesmaids—Hilarious, obviously.
Girls Trip—again, see above. I could watch this movie like 10 more times and still laugh out loud.
The Greatest Showman—I just LOVE the music in this movie and think it’s a fun escape.
About Last Night—This one’s a cute rom-com with a fun, black cast.
Bridget Jones’s Diary—An oldie but a goodie. I’ve actually never seen the second or third Bridget Jones movies so those are also on my list to finally watch.
Sausage Party—Not for children!! Haha this one is a bit “out there” but if you’re into (very) crude humor and up for anything, I’d say it’s a good time.
Aladdin—Ahh, the live action remake is SO good and I will wholeheartedly tell anyone who will listen to watch it.
Step Brothers—Classic. Hilarious. The end.
Black Panther—We STAN a black superhero.
Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them—Again, anything Harry Potter related is a go in my book.
Clueless—An actual classic that everyone should see at least once.
Neighbors—So so so funny! Same vein as Step Brothers, in terms of just silly humor.
Space Jam—Ugh, talk about nostalgic childhood movies.
Cheaper By The Dozen—I don’t know why but I’ve always loved this movie. The kids are so funny and it’s just a great family film.
Bring It On—I want to also call this a classic but feel like I’m using that to describe most of these movies…whatever, it’s a classic in my book. And as a former cheerleader, it has to make the list.
Legally Blonde—Reese Witherspoon can be my lawyer any day.
13 Going on 30—Such a fun, feel-good girly movie that I can put on any time of day.
The Other Woman—This movie is literally hilarious and one of my favorites, even after watching It dozens of times.
Uptown Girls—RIP Brittany Murphy, you literal angel! I’ve been obsessed with this movie for over a decade now so needless to say, it’s a must in my book.
The Lion King & Lion King 2—If The Lion King isn’t in your top 3 Disney movies of all time I’m not sure if I can trust you so…
Frozen—Still think the first one is better than the second but both are so fun and the songs are great!
Moana—Another newer Disney movie that I absolutely adore.
So that’s my full list of movies to watch while social distancing! At least, that’s the list as of today. Like I mentioned before I plan to come back around to this post and keep adding to the list so again, don’t forget to pin the image below and share this post for easy reference later! Also please feel free to add your own recommendations down in the comments, or over on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook!
