Today I’ll be sharing details about two incredible Velas Resorts properties in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico—the stunning boutique hotel, Casa Velas, and their gorgeous beachfront resort, Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit. Both properties feature all the incredible attention to detail that you’d come to expect from Velas Resorts, and offer two different vibes depending on your wedding plans.
Destination Wedding Venue #1: Casa Velas
Casa Velas is an adults-only, luxury boutique hotel in Puerto Vallarta, located on a sprawling golf course. This is the venue for you if you’re looking for a more intimate and serene wedding experience for you and your guests. Situated amongst beautifully manicured, lush gardens, Casa Velas offers endless picturesque backdrops for wedding ceremonies and receptions. And the Spanish hacienda design of the buildings will leave your guests feeling transported from the moment they arrive.
While Casa Velas does create a more intimate vibe for your wedding, it can accommodate both smaller and moderately sized weddings, with a max capacity of 180 guests. There are approximately 80 suites on the premises, and your wedding party can reserve the entire resort for yourselves by booking at least 60 suites! Also of note, if you book out the resort for your wedding day, you’re also allowed to bring children to this typically adults-only oasis.
Casa Velas makes for a wonderful destination wedding venue, as it includes discounted access to a gorgeous golf course, complimentary access and all-inclusive plans for the nearby Tau Beach Club (with its own private beach!), gourmet dining onsite, personal concierge service, an infinity pool with a swim-up bar, and even a private herb garden that grows fresh herbs to be used exclusively for the hotel’s spa treatments, food and beverages.
The biggest thing that stuck out to me personally about Casa Velas (and really all Velas Resorts properties), is that they prioritize quality over quantity. They only book one wedding per day, so that the dedicated team of wedding planners can truly create a personalized, bespoke experience for the bride and groom on their day. No detail is spared, and they really tailor every detail to their couple’s desires.
Destination Wedding Venue #2: Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit
Now let’s talk about Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit, Velas Resorts’ massive beachfront property also in Puerto Vallarta. Grand Velas’s family-friendly atmosphere makes it the perfect destination wedding venue for those that want guests of all ages at their wedding celebrations. It is also much larger than Casa Velas, with event venues that can accommodate up to 500 guests, and over 260 guest suites, perfect for even the grandest of celebrations.
Located along Banderas Bay, the stunning beachfront property boasts iconic sunset views from nearly any point on the resort. And even better? All suites at Grand Velas have an ocean view, so all of your guests can enjoy the breathtaking scenery around them. Grand Velas is also home to four gourmet restaurants, serving traditional Mexican, Italian, French and Asian cuisines by renowned chefs, as well as a poolside, beachfront buffet that serves daily breakfast, lunch and dinner. (Don’t sleep on Azul, the beachfront buffet restaurant. We tried the breakfast buffet on our last day and it was 10/10!)
Beyond the wedding celebrations, your guests will have plenty to enjoy at Grand Velas; from the award-winning Se Spa with authentic Mexican-inspired treatments, the state of the art teens club, dancing the night away or trying a tequila tasting or mixology class at Koi Bar, to antigravity yoga at the fitness center—there is something for everyone. Personally, we were so in love with the infinity pool that we spent every afternoon poolside, enjoying the ocean views, swim-up bar and poolside service. Pro-tip: don’t miss out on the tacos and fresh fruit popsicles!
When to Book Your Destination Wedding at Velas Resorts
The high season for weddings at both Puerto Vallarta resorts is during the months of January, February, and March. This is the dry season in Mexico, so chance of rain on your wedding day is low and so is the humidity. The weather was absolutely perfect while we were there in January, and made for the perfect escape from the winter cold in NYC. The staff also highly recommends April and May as wonderful wedding months for destination weddings at Casa Velas and Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit.
