I know everyone says this every month, but I really can’t resist—I can’t believe it is already November. Every year I feel like the last quarter of the year flies by, but this one feels like even more of a blur. To be completely honest, I’m not sure what November holds for us. Normally I’d be getting excited for the holiday season, booking all of my travel, and basking in the last few days of fall foliage around the city; and I guess I partially am still doing those things…but I’d be remiss to not mention that everything feels a bit tainted by what tomorrow brings…the 2020 U.S. Presidential Election. *dun dun dun*
I’m not going to harp on it. I simply can’t. I don’t think I have the words, to be honest with you. Maybe I’m also a bit fatigued, as The Election (intentional capitalization there hah) seems to be the only thing anyone is talking about these days. It’s huge and more important than it’s ever been. And I cannot wait for it to be behind us. In closing, I’ll just say PLEASE GO VOTE. Today (if your state allows early voting) or tomorrow, please just make it happen. Every voice needs to be heard.
November Intentions
1) Decorate for Christmas! This is a funny one for me because growing up, I was raised to not decorate until December because doing it before Thanksgiving was bad luck. However, I changed my stance on this last year for a few reasons. For starters, there’s nothing I love more than the Christmas season, so I figure why not extend it a little by putting up my decorations early? Plus, I always felt a bit gipped since Craig and I both travel to see our families for Christmas so we “lose” that time at home with our tree and decor. Decorating earlier means more time admiring our handiwork, ha! Also, having a blog and creating holiday content means I need to get a jump on it earlier than most people so it’s only natural to decorate earlier so I can start shooting content for the busiest season of the year.
2) Vote. This is actually already done (Craig and I went in and voted early last Friday) but ya know, IT’S IMPORTANT so I wanted to list it here again.
3) Maximize my own productivity through better processes and planning. Wow, that sounds like some kind of goal you’d write on your employee review at work haha but I mean it! This fall I’ve found myself kind of in a slump when it comes to creating and being consistent. I’m all about giving yourself grace (and boy do we all need some of that this year), but I think I’ve gotten a little too lenient with myself. I don’t feel like I use my weekends well, and being the ambitious/driven person that I am, I’ve been feeling pretty guilty about not hitting my own goals I’ve set for myself. So I’m hoping to start implementing some changes NOW rather than waiting for January 1. Like I said earlier, the holiday season is arguably the busiest for bloggers so I want to up my productivity and make it the best #PrettyLittleChristmas yet.
4) Practice lots of gratitude. I like to think I’m a pretty grateful person. I recognize my blessings and thank God and the universe often for all of the things that go right in my life on a daily basis. But this month, with everything going on (read The Election, a global pandemic, ya know 2020 things) I want to really lean into gratitude and appreciating all of the amazing people in my life. If 2020 has taught us anything it’s to be thankful and love the people in our lives as much as possible while they’re here.
November Style Picks
It’s actually getting pretty cold up here in NYC these last few days. As I write this it is 39 degrees outside, lol. So this month I’m craving lots of cozy sweats, chunky sweaters, and even a few sparkly holiday pieces…I can’t resist a bit of sparkle.
I hope you enjoyed today’s post welcoming November and the upcoming holiday season.
