Ahh, now that we’re passed Labor Day we can (unofficially) begin all things fall. On the agenda for me this week: decorate the apartment with fall decor, break out all the candles and hand soaps in my favorite fall scents, grab a Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew from Starbucks (or two), and make it over to Trader Joe’s to check out all of their new seasonal goodies. Oh September, welcome back old friend.
Sure, the majority of this month is still *technically* summer, but I’ve just always felt like September is a fall month. As soon as September 1 rolls around I am ready for all things pumpkin spice, chunky sweaters, fall foliage in Central Park, and crisp fall mornings spent on the balcony sipping a hot mug of coffee. I want to escape NYC for the day and go apple picking up north in the Hudson Valley. I want to switch out all of my summer sandals for neutral fall booties. I want to cozy up on the couch under the softest of blankets, turn on a Harry Potter movie and get transported to Hogwarts for the day, while a light rain and fog covers the city outside of my window. Maybe to some this sounds basic. But this year more than ever, I just want the feel-goodness of fall. In a year that has been anything but normal, I’m craving my usual fall comforts I’ve come to love, and the inexplicable feeling of a refresh that comes with the last quarter of the year.
September Intentions
1) I want to get ahead on blog content. This year has really allowed me more time to focus on PLH and I’ve been loving it, but I want to be even more consistent and intentional with the content that I share. I want to get ahead on posts and get a schedule in place so that things don’t sneak up on me as much as they have in the past. So this month, I want to plan out my October editorial calendar in advance and even start mapping out November.
2) I want to finish listening to my current audiobook, Atomic Habits by James Clear, on Audible. Random fact about me: though I love to read, I cannot seem to get through a non-fiction book. Self-help books always seem so interesting to me and I get really excited to start them but rarely make it passed the half way point. Knowing this about myself, I decided to try listening to those kinds of books on Audible to see if that helps me get through it and I’ve been loving it! It’s really similar to listening to a podcast (which I also love), so it’s been a natural fit for me to add a bit of “reading” into each day. I typically listen while I’m in the shower.
3) Finish organizing our “pantry” in the kitchen. I had this idea when we got back from our Florida road trip to organize and revamp our kitchen “pantry”. I use the word pantry in quotes because it’s really just the two largest cabinets in our Brooklyn apartment; not an actual pantry. Any way I ordered all the supplies I’d need to do the project…and then only did about 50% of it. Womp, womp, womp. So this month, I am going to make sure I get that project done so that I can not only have a nice, organized pantry but I can share it here on the blog! Writing it here for accountability’s sake, of course.
September Style Picks
Labor Day Sales were very enticing this past weekend! I definitely succumbed to a few and picked up some new pieces with fall in mind. Think lots of neutrals, light layers, fall loungewear, and of course, new face masks.
I hope you enjoyed today’s post welcoming September and the amazing fall season. I’ve wanted to do posts like these for a long time now (obsessed with Sweet Horizon blog and her gorgeous collages!) but I kept procrastinating, so I’m excited to kick this monthly series off today. You can expect a monthly moodboard along with my intentions/goals and style picks from here on out! Let me know what you’re most looking forward to this September and as always, head over to Instagram, Twitter or Facebook to follow along.
