Welcome to my monthly recap! Here I’ll share all the things I loved, bought, watched, listened to and more during the previous month.
Seeing as how I completely missed the June recap last month, I figured I should just combine June and July in today’s recap. I can’t believe that August is upon us and summer is lowkey drawing to a close! I announced over on Instagram that we actually moved this month so that’s probably a big part of the reason I feel like summer is flying by. But let’s get into the recap and catch up, shall we?
Pretty Little Purchases
Wow, with the move going on and just the nature of the season, I feel like I’ve been bleeding money this summer. Between shopping for home things plus the big NSale…my wallet is ready for a much-needed break.
Fave Purchases:
Our new balcony set! Have used it every single day since setting it up and love how it looks.
These booties that I can’t wait to break out when the weather gets cooler.
These super cute and comfy slip-on sneakers.
This little card reader that directly connects my memory card to my iPhone. I know this is going to come in handy!
Pretty Little Memories
Honestly June and July feel like a bit of a blur to me. Moving to a new apartment in Brooklyn was all-consuming and took up a lot of my energy in July but there were definitely some fun moments in the past couple of months. For starters, I forgot to mention in the May recap that I finally saw Hamilton on Broadway with my girlfriends! It was so, so good and I totally see what all the hype was about. Then in June, I went to Mermaid Parade on Coney Island for the third time and had a blast as usual; checked out Rosé Mansion with my new blogger friend Lauryn; and saw Harry Potter & the Cursed Child Pts.1 & 2 on Broadway for the second time.
We also had some fun in July, especially during our long weekend at the beach for July 4th. My family and I have been going to Wildwood, NJ for most of my life and that place will always have a piece of my heart. It was SO fun and nice being back there with my family and Craig.

May 2019 Recap
What I Listened to…
Aside from my usual podcasts, I’ve also been listening to lots of Lizzo and surprisingly decided to listen to some of my favorite throwbacks from T.I. haha. In case you didn’t know, I was super into T.I. in middle school and high school so it’s been fun putting on some of his old songs and remembering how much I loved them.
What I Watched…
We’ve really stepped up our movie game lately and have been to the movie theater a bunch this summer. June movies included Godzilla, Always Be My Maybe (this one is on Netflix and a fun rom-com if you haven’t seen it yet!), and Aladdin (which I am completely obsessed with). In July we saw the new Lion King (duh!) and Midsommar (very very creepy/strange…it’s not for everyone). We also started binging Stranger Things and just started season three this weekend! So glad we finally hopped on this bandwagon.
Where We Ate…
Imani Caribbean Kitchen & Bar
We had brunch here in June and I have a mixed review. On one hand the food was awesome as well as the atmosphere so I really enjoyed that. We ordered the fish fritters, mac ‘n cheese, french toast, and pulled pork sandwich. All really good! On the other hand though, they offered bottomless mimosas and they were pretty disappointing for a number of reasons, the biggest being they ran out of champagne during service! So all in all, I’d recommend trying this place but don’t go for the mimosas.
Sweet Chick
Have I ever mentioned my love of Sweet Chick on the blog? If not, I am today. I love this place. They have some of the best chicken and waffles in the city and everything is good there. Y’all know I love some good southern comfort food. It’s actually a problem haha.
Woodland
I celebrated my 25th birthday here for brunch last year and we finally got a chance to go back this year! This place is a party brunch spot in Brooklyn that I just love. Great food. Bottomless drinks. A live DJ. And great vibes. Pro-Tip:Â arrive early (like when they open) with your entire party because the line wraps around the block and they don’t take reservations or seat partial parties!
Alma
This was a fun Mexican spot that we tried for happy hour in July. It’s nestled right on the water in Brooklyn with great views of the downtown NYC skyline and a rooftop seating area. Their specialty margaritas and chips & guac were so good!
Sugarhill
Since moving, we’ve loved exploring our new neighborhood and finding new restaurants/bars to try. This is the first one we’ve tried since it’s so close to our apartment and I can’t say enough good things. It’s a small, black-owned restaurant that’s been around for 40 years. They have delicious, cooked to order, soul food and the staff is super friendly. I’m excited to continue trying new dishes here and supporting a local neighborhood business.
