I am so excited to share some more wedding content, and today’s blog post is a good one. Our wedding party proposals came out even better than we imagined, and we basically DIY’d the entire thing. In this blog post I’m going to share our final wedding party proposal boxes, where we ordered everything from, and how we built out the boxes from start to finish.
This post is all about our wedding party proposals.
Background On Our Wedding Party Proposals
If you’re looking for wedding content on social media at all these days, I’m sure you’ve seen the endless bridesmaid proposal gifts and wedding party proposal boxes overflowing with gifts for the bridesmaid or groomsman. These boxes are usually filled with things like scrunchies, lip gloss, candy, and customized cups or tumblers with the recipient’s initials on them.
There’s nothing wrong with these kinds of bridesmaid proposals, and if you love them, I totally support you! We just knew that we wanted to do something a little different for our people. We didn’t want to give them a box full of things that might become clutter in their homes. So we decided to go with things that we love as a couple, and that eluded to our “destination” wedding. We also didn’t want to do separate proposals for the men and women of our wedding party, so everyone (groomsmen and bridesmaids/men) got the exact same thing, which I personally loved. It made it much easier than planning out two different proposal boxes.
Unique Bridesmaid Proposal: A Full-Size Bottle of Champs
All of our friends know how much Craig and I love champagne, so that was a given for our wedding party proposal boxes. We wanted to set the tone for our big day right off the bat, and we wanted to treat our friends to a full-size bottle of really good champagne.
For us, gifting everyone a bottle of MoĂ«t & Chandon was a no-brainer. The tricky part was finding the champagne at an affordable price in NYC. In the city, MoĂ«t usually runs around $60+ per bottle. Obviously, we didn’t want to spend that much for our 11-person wedding party. We’re not made of money over here!
Enter: Total Wine.
Total Wine calls themselves “America’s Wine Superstore” and they pride themselves on having a huge assortment of wine at the most affordable prices. Another amazing thing about Total Wine is that they will ship directly to your door super fast. They have over 240 locations in 27 states, so if you’re interested, I would definitely check out their site to find locations near you.
We ended up finding our champagne for under $50 per bottle, which was just unheard of in NYC/Brooklyn where we live. We ordered all the bottles we needed and they arrived at our apartment THE NEXT DAY. It doesn’t get better than that.
Our Wedding Party Proposal Cards
A crucial piece of any bridal party proposal is the card inside that actually asks the person to be in your wedding. Since I am a full-time graphic designer for work, I knew I wanted to custom design these for our proposals. I designed our custom bridesmaid proposal cards in Adobe InDesign and found that the trickiest part of this whole thing was actually finding a company to print them.
Many of the popular wedding stationary sites don’t print custom designs, which was really frustrating. Finally, we found Zazzle. Luckily for us, Zazzle offered custom design printing for a super affordable rate, and we had them printed on 3.5 inch x 5 inch cards, on their linen paper. Zazzle was also running a promotion at the time, so we got our wedding party proposal cards printed at just over $1 each. FYI: they almost always have a sale going, so definitely check before paying full price!
When the cards arrived we were really happy with the paper and printing quality, so I definitely recommend Zazzle for any custom wedding stationary or printing needs.
I had this idea to hang the proposal cards on the champagne bottles, almost like a little gift tag. To do this, we went ribbon shopping at a local store in NYC called M&J Trimming. They actually ship worldwide and have a massive selection of ribbons, laces, buttons and other trimmings. We went with a gorgeous crushed velvet ribbon in this mauve/purple color.
Finally, to adhere the ribbon to the cards, we loved the idea of using custom wax seals. They were the perfect “something extra”, and completed the handmade, custom vibe we were going for. We ordered this wax seal kit on Etsy and would definitely recommend it. I designed our monogram and it was super easy to send to the seller for our customized seal. The only thing you’ll need in addition to the kit is a pack of tea-light candles to melt the wax pellets, which I believe we grabbed from Amazon.
The Finishing Touches: Easy Bridal Party Proposal Ideas
Once we finished the “centerpiece” of our wedding party proposals, we ordered a couple additional things just to round out the wedding party proposal boxes. First, we grabbed these adorable custom Save The Date cookies off Etsy, since we hadn’t technically announced our wedding date yet. These were around $60 for a dozen cookies—the perfect amount for our 11-person wedding party. They arrived pretty quickly, I want to say it took about 2 weeks from the day we ordered. The cookies arrived thoughtfully packaged in individual wrappers, which we also appreciated. They were a huge hit with our wedding party!
Since we’re doing a “destination wedding” (I put it in quotes because we aren’t leaving the country or anything and it feels kind of silly to say destination wedding, even though that’s kind of what it is since most of our guests, and us, will be flying in for it) we wanted to elude to the travel aspect of it in our proposal boxes. We found these monogrammed leather luggage tags on Etsy, and loved that they came from a seller in Ukraine so we could help support them during this difficult time. Shipping did take a bit longer since they were coming all the way from Ukraine, during a time of war, but they also arrived thoughtfully packaged and were perfect! These were around $10 each.
Honestly, the custom cookies and luggage tags would be super cute on their own as bridal party gifts or as standalone bridesmaids proposals. It would be really cute to give your bridesmaids a card with a handwritten note and the cookies or luggage tag. That would also be a great affordable option for a bridesmaid proposal—a win in my book!

And that’s everything we included in our wedding party proposal boxes! Honestly, typing it all out like this makes it seem like a lot, haha, but we wouldn’t change a thing. Craig and I are both so happy with how these turned out and our friends and family loved them!
